Pros & Cons of Triple Zero Roulette
Roulette comes in several variations. Depending upon the casino, you can enjoy American, European, French, and Triple Zero Roulette.
The Triple Zero wheel is becoming more and more common. It’s now available in many casinos throughout the United States. You may be interested in playing this unique type of roulette.
Before playing it, though, you should know the pros and cons of this game. The following guide covers what you should expect. But first, I’ll go over why this game is unique and how it’s cropping up in more and more casinos.
Basics of Triple Zero Roulette
The two common types of roulette wheels include American and European. An American wheel features 38 pockets, including a zero and double zero. The European wheel has 37 pockets, including a single zero.
Other than its unique wheel, triple zero plays just like any other roulette game. It simply provides more pockets than any other version. Due to the extra pockets, it also offers a few more betting opportunities.
The Re-emergence of the Triple Zero Wheel
Triple Zero Roulette was all but extinct from casinos a couple of decades ago. However, this game has come roaring back in recent times.
Many Las Vegas casinos now offer this wheel. Sin City isn’t the only place where you can find this game. Many other major gambling destinations are rolling out triple zero wheels as well.
Online casinos haven’t really embraced this trend. The way things are going, though, you might find an online roulette game with a triple zero wheel eventually.
Pros of the Triple Zero Version
The triple zero game has become popular for a few different reasons. Here’s a look at why you should consider this game.
Something Different
If you’re tired of playing the same American and/or European roulette variations everywhere, then you might appreciate Triple Zero Roulette.
The triple zero pocket or space makes the wheel look interesting. Assuming you want to switch things up, then you can try this game out.
More Available Bets
You’ll find three different zero-based pockets at the end of a triple zero betting board. As a result, you’ll have more types of bets to choose from.
For starters, you can put a straight bet on a triple zero. Assuming the ball lands on this pocket, then you’ll receive a 35 to 1 payout.
You can also place wagers using some combination of the triple zero and surrounding pockets. Assuming you like to place trio and corner beds, then you’ll appreciate this aspect.
Larger Comps
As I’ll cover later, Triple Zero Roulette leads to larger theoretical losses. That said, casinos are willing to comp you more.
Of course, the comp rating system for table games isn’t perfect. Generally, though, you should receive 3x the comps as a European Roulette player and 1.5x the comps as an American player.
If you’re somebody who appreciates picking up freebies, then you’ll like this aspect. Casinos will offer you more drinks, meals, and other perks when you’re playing Triple Zero Roulette.
Cons of Triple Zero Roulette
Earlier, I mentioned that the triple zero game leads to higher losses. This is only one downside that you need to worry about when playing this game.
One of the Worst Paying Games in the Casino
Here are the house advantages for the three roulette wheels:
- American = 5.26% house edge
- European = 2.70% house edge
- Triple Zero = 7.69% house edge
As can be seen, Triple Zero Roulette is the worst of the bunch. It’s aptly named because it has a house edge that’s 3x as high as the European game. Meanwhile, its house advantage is 1.5x as high as the American version.
For perspective, slot machines that carry between a 7% and 8% house edge are considered among the worst options. Triple Zero Roulette fits right alongside some of the lowest-paying slots. This is especially bad when considering that table games usually pay higher than slot machines.
More Theoretical Losses
Hopefully, you’ll still be able to win with Triple Zero despite the high house advantage. The reality, though, is that you’ll be facing higher theoretical losses.
Here are comparisons to show this point:
American
- You bet $2,000 during the evening.
- 2,000 x 0.0526 = 105.20
- You’ll theoretically lose $105.20
European
- You bet $2,000 during the evening.
- 2,000 x 0.027 = 54
- You’ll theoretically lose $54
Triple Zero
- You bet $2,000 during the evening.
- 2,000 x 0.0769 = 153.80
- You’ll theoretically lose $153.80
Your Bankroll Will Run Out Faster
Higher theoretical losses lead to another problem. Your bankroll won’t last as long if you’re suffering bigger losses.
Here’s an example to show how much less gambling time you’ll have on Triple Zero Roulette versus other games:
American
- You play 50 spins per hour.
- You bet $10 per spin.
- 50 x 10 = $500 in wagers
- 500 x 0.0526 = 26.30
- You’ll theoretically lose $26.30 per hour.
European
- You play 50 spins per hour.
- You bet $10 per spin.
- 50 x 10 = $500 in wagers
- 500 x 0.027 = 13.50
- You’ll theoretically lose $13.50 per hour.
Triple Zero
- You play 50 spins per hour.
- You bet $10 per spin.
- 50 x 10 = $500 in wagers
- 500 x 0.0769 = 38.45
- You’ll theoretically lose $38.45 per hour.
Comps Not Worth the Extra Losses
As covered before, you can expect more comps when playing Triple Zero Roulette. The casino is willing to reward you more for higher theoretical losses.
- You bet $5,000 throughout the night on Triple Zero Roulette.
- The casino’s comp rate is 0.15% for Triple Zero Roulette.
- 5,000 x 0.0015 = 7.5
- You’ll receive $7.50 worth of comps.
- 5,000 x 0.0769 = 384.50
- You’ll theoretically lose $384.50.
- 5 / 7.5 = 51.27
- Your theoretical losses will be 51.27x higher than the rewards.
Should You Avoid Triple Zero Roulette at All Costs?
Overall, the Triple Zero version features more downside than upside. You seriously need to consider whether it’s really worth playing this game in the end.
For all practical purposes, you’re better off playing European or American Roulette. Both games give you a better chance to win.
However, the triple zero game does have its charms. It presents roulette in a different perspective and offers some different wagers.
It would be nice if casinos offered larger payouts on Triple Zero Roulette wins, given the extra house-friendly pocket. As it stands, though, this game is nothing more than an exotic roulette variation.
Conclusion
You won’t have much trouble finding Triple Zero Roulette these days. It’s becoming available in more and more casinos.
The big question, though, is if you should actually play this game. It carries a higher house than any other roulette variation. As a result, it can cause you to lose money faster.
Assuming you are interested in the Triple Zero wheel, you should consider limiting your play on it. This game will eat through your bankroll faster than almost anything else in the casino.
The better options include American and European Roulette. American Roulette is often available right alongside the triple zero version and has a lower house edge.
European roulette, meanwhile, is mostly available in Europe and online casinos. If you can find this game at reasonable stakes, then it’s definitely worth playing.
